How can I improve foot traffic to HVG?

As a customer, what is a shopping 'experience' at HVG like?

1. Our gallery is low-key to a fault. Clever and persuasive advertising bombards our society. Selling goods is over the top on TV, radio, signs, movies, you name it. How can we compete with more commercial shops and retain an strong artistic presence? How do commercial galleries do it?

1. Shopping is one of the top forms of entertainment, especially to vacationers. When hosting HVG I find that many visitors come to the Marina from elsewhere as a 'day trip'. What more can we offer as spontaneous purchases, what kinds of displays? Not mass-marketed souvenir things, but meaningful wares.

3. Who is our market? Probably the older, wiser, richer? Remember we are next door to alot of dog lovers! (Who happen to browse in our place too). Ventura is also heavily family and Mexican-American. Are we satisfying their needs?

Please don't shoot me! I absolutely LOVE the HVG and am humongously grateful for the opportunity to display my work. I am willing to help make this place great!

What's next?

Comment on Buenaventura Art Association Blogs!

Hello blog and fellow bloggers,
As artists, I guess that it helps to know when we are wearing hats and what hat we have on at any given time. Occasionally and currently, I find myself wearing the young student beanie, and wondering how to proceed. I am feeling firmly entrenched in this group, in my art and enjoy being a member. Now....where to go from here? With some questions and only a few suggestions for answers, I seem to feel as if I am searching for a few guidelines within this group. I understand this isn't art school though I get a similiar buzz when hanging around other artists here. That is I guess, where this group serves a diffent role for me that I treasure. Let's not focused on competition, like a businesses or a sporting event. Inspiration, in my opinion, is truly a gift, and I am enjoying that part of the package within this group of artists that I have joined. Mr. Cooper's seminar/opening at the Harbor Gallery was waycool. Donna Carver's art impressed me to search out more colors of blue. And Chris and Marilyn and Jan are cohorts and fun new associates. Just one or two questions and/or a few other concerns:
Regarding our shows....I love the overall freedom of not having parameters or themes, but with no guidelines or concepts, I find myself simply submitting random pieces. I guess that's normal? Does anyone else feel that way, if so, and I hope this is the case, then maybe we are all okay continuing on this pathway...and maybe once in awhile, we could have a themed or a style, or a statement, show, where we know in ADVANCE what we are to be concentrating on....and again I love that it's total freedom, but maybe I feel that when being judged or juried, and (paying for that pleasure, that some guideline would help. If not, and I'm just being mental, well, that's okay too......at least in the art world, right?.

I will continue with time and money and energy and trust that we will all progress and enjoy the road.

I do have a specific thought or two in regards to Juror Comments in the newsletter. It's cool that we get some feedback and only wish that I could have known that this juror was "looking for statements and consious attempts to add to our visual world, rather than simply reciting it" As the movie "The Wedding Singer" said, "that would have been good information to have had YESTERDAY". Waggoner also states that "the most successful works are those that are whole and complete personal statements"...That she feels that way, while going against my sort thinking in regards to MY art, can give us all pause to consider that within this group, lie many ideas and ways of thinking.. opinions or views of the jurors aren't intended to be adversarial or like a teacher/student thing, are they? For me, that part of art and life is never over and ongoing and while I appreciate the alternative point of view, I also enjoy expressing flashes of incompleteness occasionally, and I guess I just did.. thanks for having me..pc

Comment on Buenaventura Art Association Blogs!

BAA's Annual meeting last night was terrific. Admirers of her work recount memories, echoed in her paintings, while others feel momentrily transported to the vistas before them. Fleeting encournters that induldge our spriit even if only for ...A Moment in Time.

Her paintings relate, largely to the coastal waters and shorelines, where she has lived. From the Atlantic coast, where she was raised, to the Pacific coast she has called home, since 1969. Both, have greatly influenced her life and her art.

Of herself she says-"My creative soul has always been rejuvenated by the coastal waters" Inspired by its strenght and energy, many of her paintings are interpertations of her original photographs, travel and experiences. These paintings depict the force and unrelenting intensity of coastal waters while reveling an essence that surrounds you and draws you to it.

While teaching at California State University Northridge, she loved placing her graduate students for internships in Ventura and Santa Barbara – it gave her the opportunity to drive along the coast and rejuvenate her soul.
After an early retirement, she moved to Ventura and began studying painting seriously with such artists as Phyl Doyon, Julia and Gail Ayers, Jackie Cavish and Hiroko Yoshimoto.

Le Mirage 4738 #2 Telephone Rd., Ventura,CA
(805) 650-1268;
email: LeMiragegym@yahoo.com
www.lemiragefitnessforwomen.com

Comment on Buenaventura Art Association Blogs!

While visiting our BAA web site...noticed the promotion and slide show for "Who Got Framed" ...

Great slide show, Chris, and what a great event, cause , and evening it was..here's to the next one getting bigger and better...

Bigger and more money raised ...yes,
Better...that will be hard to beat.

Donna

Comment on Buenaventura Art Association Blogs!

Donna Carver wrote:
Hi BAA Members....the owner of
"B" on Main saw my Solo Show at HVG and asked if I was on Art Walk...I said NO.
She said...I would like to have you at my Store....so if you are out walking the Art Walk...this Sat.
